Depression is a widespread condition suffered by up to 1 in 4 people in the UK.
It is not just a case of feeling down, isolated or generally fed up. Depression can impact relationships and disrupt every aspect of your livelihood if left undiagnosed.
Once identified, there is a lot of support on hand to help those suffering from depression and at my central London clinic, I provide specialised hypnotherapy sessions to help people overcome their own condition, whatever the cause may be.
Identifying depression
Depression manifests itself in many ways with symptoms ranging across psychological, physiological and social elements including:
- Persistent pessimism, sadness and anxiety
- Restlessness and irritability
- Worthlessness, helplessness or a sense of guilt
- Lack of concentration and indecisiveness
- Suicidal thoughts or tendencies
- Lack of interest and low self-esteem
- Disrupted sleep and fatigue
- Loss of appetite, lack of energy and loss of libido
- Isolation from peers
- Loss of interest in daily activities or work
Treating depression
The first step in treating depression is identifying the condition, then establishing the cause and underlying issues.
This could be a single depressive episode, a symptom of a deeper issue (such as bipolar), a residual symptom from another event (such as post-natal depression) or perhaps stem from other stresses in your life. Once you have understood the reasons behind your feelings, you can start to approach treatment.
Often, the most effective activities involve taking some sort of therapy, joining self-help groups and taking on some level of exercise. If you are suffering from a more severe state of depression, you may require medication, or a combination of the above treatments.
The key factor is ensuring you have the appropriate support structures in place to help you manage your state and maintain you on the path to recovery.
The role of advanced hypnosis in depression
Hypnotherapy targets the root cause of your condition and looks to help you understand the reasons behind your depressive state. Depression is frequently the output from a suppressed or forgotten memory that unfolds as a depressive state that is difficult to diagnose.
Whilst the condition is not consciously recognised, it severely affects your underlying mood.
Through hypnotherapy, you are able to go a level deeper and connect to your subconscious. As your hypnotherapist, I will help you unearth the repressed thoughts or anxieties that led to your current mood and will reverse the negative thoughts that you harbour with regards to any supressed events.
In facing up to the issue in this way, I will return you to a state of confidence and independence so that you can live your life as you did prior to developing your condition.
